February, 1947.

I have etc. to refer to your

(1) despatch no. 249 of the 31st December, 1946, on the subject of the repair of the Queen Victoria Statue in Hong Kong.

Enquiries have been made through the Crown Agents for the Colonies, and I now enclose a report on the subject from The Morris-Singer Company, a firm of art metal founders of high repute, amongst whose recent work was the casting of the bronze statue of King George VI.

It will be considered that the firm is of the opinion that the only satisfactory way of repairing the statue is by returning it to this country.
